Aperçu

Here's the bass for their first #1 song, With Or Without You:

G-----------------|-----------------|-----------------|-----------------|
D-----------------|-----------------|-----------------|-----------------|
A-5-5-5-5-5-5-5-5-|-0-0-0-0-0-0-0-0-|-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-|-----------------|
E-----------------|-----------------|-----------------|-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-|

It's in 4/4 time, and all Clayton plays is eighth notes the whole way through.

Sometimes when played live, they drop it down to C#, G#, Bb, and F#.

Song: With or Without You (Live) (Bass Tab)
Album: PopHeart EP
Group: U2
Transcribed by: Paul Bergman

I know this has already been transcribed but I thought I would add that
beautiful slide that Adam adds in PopMart. I know the notes that Adam
plays but I'm not sure which way he actually plays it. I play it like:

E 10 10 10 10 10 10 10 10 \ 5 5 5 5 5 5 5 5 / 7 7 7 7 7 7 7 7 \ 3 3 3 3
3 3 3 3

I think that Adam plays it like this:

                                                    0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0
E 10 10 10 10 10 10 10 10 7 7 7 7 7 7 7 7
\ 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3

I like the first version better because it makes the slides more
prominent.

Then at the time of 2.52 (the "hardest" part of the song when Bono
screams) Adam does that beautiful slide like so:

E 10 10 10 10 10 10 10 10 / 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 / 19 19 19 19 19 19
19 19 \

E 15 15 15 15 15 15 15 15

And for the second time around:

E 10 10 10 10 10 10 10 10 / 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 17 \ 7 7 7 7 7 7 7 7 \

E 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3

Then he goes back to the back to original riff. He adds in a couple
notes right near the end that are something like this:

E 10 10 10 10 10 10 10 10 \ 5 5 5 5 5 5 5 5 / 7 9 10 9 10 \ 3 3
3 3 3 3 3 3

Then just before the end he goes back to the slide. I'm not sure why
the song was cut off so short. Anyways, I think that this song is
Adam's and U2's best work. This was the best $10 (Canadian) that I ever
spent. Please e-mail me any corrections, suggestions, etc to
popmusik@hotmail.com I am always looking to talk to any other U2
fanatics. Thank you.
