I installed this unit on a beautiful Fender Masterbuilt Custom Shop Jazz Deluxe Bass, which sound wise didn't live up to it's incredible looks, finish and pedigree. I replaced the electronics with a J-Retro package. Now the Bass sounds huge and full, or hollow, or mid-growly or trad J in passive mode. It really came alive, and now I'm very happy with it. I find no downside to this wonderful kit.
